You get these from home depot, and you can get rid of the sound tube. Hey, if it works, it works. 4 bucks vs 100 or so for an intake tube that gets rid of it.

MOAR LOUDER?

Yea I was being sarcastic. Why not some paint? Or a breather filter for MOAR AIR!

I got a panel filter for 20 bucks from a friend, didn't notice much of a change in performance. Intake sounded awesome though. And the delete is just to get rid of the fake intake sound, the stock intake is actually pretty good.

Pardon me, but why should you want to get rid of a harmless rubber tube? When I realized that my Chevy has not one, but TWO of them I was so very happy and I thought: "wow!.. such quality... very project... much technology... so advanced!"

Wouldn't a non-threaded PVC plug work even better?
![]() 02/22/2014 at 18:02 |

I think it would.

Thanks, I'll try that. It's such a completely useless 'feature'

It sounds kind of fake when you are driving, which is kind of annoying to me. It is a 1.25" PVC cap.

On my old '80 GMC K20 4x4 (not pictured, that's a '77 Fury 440), I just flipped the air cleaner lid upside-down. WHuuuAAAmp...!
Kinja is being Kinja, so here's the pic I tried posting .
P.S. I'd be very careful that it's 100% sealed. Maybe some silicone or some sort of goop in the threads to ensure that air can't get in through the threads. Even a pinhole-sized leak can ingest enough dust over time to ruin an engine.

It's past the air flow sensor, that wouldn't work out too well.

Home improvement store mods are legit awesome.

I guess Photobucket and Kinja won't play nice today. I tried saving and uploading it, still no dice.

Why would you want to flip the air filter/intake dealo upside down?
Also, I will make sure there isn't any holes. So far people seem to be getting a good seal, but that was just the few that tried this.

I do not have that on my vehicle. What does a sound tube do?
![]() 02/22/2014 at 19:04 |

It basically pumps intake noise into the cabin. It sounds kind of fake though. You can see it next to the engine oil dipstick.

Kinda Cheesy.

And now you know why I want it gone!!

Mostly, it just makes the intake noise much more noticeable.
If you had a round, convex/concave-shaped air cleaner lid, you could make your own "cold air intake"-style dealio with no tools needed. Since it's just held on with one wingnut (sometimes two), you can easily flip the bowl-shaped lid over, exposing the whole air filter element to the atmosphere. There's other pros and cons to doing so, but it's easily done and easily reversible.

Or just take the plug out of the 12V outlet in your glovebox and shove it into the sound tube in the passenger footwell. Doesn't delete all of the crap in the engine bay though.
